FILLING/RESTORATION

FILLINGS /RESTORATIONS

  • Cavities are permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. Cavities, also called tooth decay or caries, are caused by a combination of factors, including bacteria in your mouth, frequent snacking, sipping sugary drinks and not cleaning your teeth well

  • What does cavity filling mean?

Cavity fillings refer to restoring a tooth that has been damaged by decay to its normal shape, size, and          function. It can be done when the decay is restricted to a smaller portion of the tooth(enamel and dentin).

  • What are the types of filling materials?

Earlier silver amalgam fillings used to be done. But nowadays, tooth colored composite and various other tooth coloured fillings are available.

  • How long does it take?

It generally takes a single appointment for cavity filling and the duration of the appointment is decided by the number of fillings required.

  • How do I know if I have a cavity?

You can look out for Sensitivity of teeth, black spots and in some cases a black hole visible to the eyes..

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing with the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp, usually by removal of the nerve and other tissue of the pulp cavity and its replacement with suitable filling materials, crowns etc. which is commonly known as Root Canal Treatment (RCT).

When is a RCT recommended?  :

  • Deep Caries that has involved the Pulp of the tooth

  • Severe attrition of teeth that causes sensitivity in the tooth

  • Traumatic injury to the tooth causing Fracture and/or Pulp exposure

  • Severe modification of the tooth which will comprise the vitality of the tooth

  • Badly broken tooth that needs to be restored with the help of post and core buildup

*****  Re-Root Canal Treatment — It is required

when the RCT has been done elsewhere but

failed or not done properly  causing recurring pain and infection

CROWNS & BRIDGES

Prosthodontics is the dental specialty that treats patients with missing or deficient teeth. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth -- to cover the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

Why Is a Dental Crown Needed?

  • To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) which has been root canal treated from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth

  • To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down

  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left

  • To hold a dental bridge in place

  • To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth

  • To cover a dental implant

  • To make a cosmetic modification

Types of crowns :

1)METAL CROWN

2) METAL CERAMIC OR PORCELAIN FUSED TO METAL CROWN

Porcelain fused to Metal crowns or the PFM crowns are nothing but metal crowns that have a layer of  a tooth coloured material (porcelain) fused to it. They almost look like natural teeth, have an excellent fit and have a good strength because of the metal base. This makes them highly acceptable by the patients..

  • How long does it take?

To place the crown, 2 appointments are enough. One for taking the impression and one for cementing the crown/bridge. Sometimes, an extra appointment might be needed for a trial of the crown/bridge.

3) ALL CERAMIC CROWN/Zirconia Crown?

Zirconia is a tooth coloured material which is highly used in making crowns today because of the advantages it gives over other materials. It is the closest to looking like natural teeth and does need any metal component. It is strong and has a long life. It is highly acceptable by the patient because of its aesthetic superiority, strength and longevity.

  • When does one need it?

When aesthics and appearance is patients major concern, zirconia crowns are by and far the best option. They can be used for any teeth, especially the front ones as they are highly natural looking. When the teeth are broken, discoloured, mottled, incorrectly positioned, affected by cavities, root canal treated, they can be given zirconia tooth

  • How long does it take?

It usually takes 2 appointments. One for the tooth preparation and measurement, and the second for the crown fixation

What is a dental bridge?

If you have missing teeth, your dentist can close — or bridge — the gaps in your smile with dental bridges. A dental bridge is a false tooth (called a pontic) that is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. Although pontics can be made from a variety of materials such as gold, typically they’re made from porcelain to aesthetically blend in with your natural teeth.

Why do U  need a dental bridge?

When you have a missing tooth or missing teeth, it can affect you in a number of ways. A dental bridge can address those changes, including

  • restoring your smile

  • restoring the ability to properly chew

  • restoring your speech and pronunciation

  • maintaining the shape of your face

  • re-adjusting your bite to properly distribute the force when you chew

  • preventing your remaining teeth from moving out of the correct position

Dental bridge types

  • Traditional dental bridge: A traditional dental bridge consists of a false tooth or teeth being held in place by dental crowns that have been cemented onto each of the abutment teeth. A traditional bridge is the most popular type of dental bridge and can be used when you have natural teeth on both sides of the gap created by your missing tooth.

  • Cantilever dental bridge- Although similar to a traditional bridge, the pontic in a cantilever dental bridge is held in place by a dental crown that is cemented to only one abutment tooth. For a cantilever bridge, you only need one natural tooth next to the missing tooth gap. (NOT DONE FOR ALL CAESE)

  • Maryland dental bridge: Similar to a traditional bridge, Maryland dental bridges employ two natural abutment teeth, one on each side of the gap. However, while a traditional bridge uses dental crowns on the abutment teeth, a Maryland bridge uses a framework of either metal or porcelain that is bonded onto the backs of the abutment teeth.

  • Implant-supported dental bridge: As the name implies, implant-supported bridges use dental implants as opposed to crowns or frameworks. Typically, one implant is surgically placed for every missing tooth, and these implants hold the bridge in position. If one implant for each missing tooth isn’t possible, the bridge may have a pontic suspended between two implant-supported crowns.

DENTURE

DENTURES

  • What is Acrylic Denture?

Acrylic denture is a removable appliance that is worn by patients with missing teeth. It can be made when all the teeth in both jaws or just a few teeth are missing. it is very easy for the patient to remove and clean flexible denture.

  • When does one need this?

Any patient with a few or all missing teeth can go for an acrylic denture. The nearby teeth should not be weak or should not have cavities. In such cases, first the nearby teeth are treated before starting the treatment

  • How long does it take?

The number of appointments can vary from 2-5, depending on the clinical findings of every patient.Sometimes these can be given as immediate temporary dentures , on the same day of an extraction procedure

  • Are there any alternatives?

Other alternatives can be bridges, cast partial dentures or implants.

TWO TYPES:

COMPLETE DENTURE – INVOLVING ALL THE TEETH OF A JAW

PARTIAL DENTURE – INVOLVING ONE OR MORE TEETH IN A JAW

What is a Flexible Denture?
Flexible dentures are removable dentures that are not rigid like the conventional removable denture . They don’t use any metallic component and hence are more aesthetic. They have flexibility unlike the regular ones and they adapt better in the patient’s mouth and are more comfortable for and acceptable to the patient.

When does one need them?
when a patient has a few missing teeth and prefer something removable over bridges or implants, a flexible denture is a good option.

SENSITIVITY

What is Teeth Sensitivity?
Teeth sensitivity or in the language of a dentist, dentinal hypersensitivity is a condition where the protective layer

on the tooth surface (enamel) wears off, exposing the

tooh nerves which react to hot and cold responses.

When a patient suffers from teeth sensitivity, it is

classically characterised by a sudden wince/

unpleasent sensation to any hot or cold food or

drinks or sometimes even air.

Causes?

This wearing off can be due to many factors like applying excessive pressure while brushing, cavities or fracture of the tooth due to trauma. even gum recession exposes the root of the tooth and results in sensitivity.ALSO CAUSED BY

-ATTRITION

-ABFRACTION

-EROSION

-ABRASION

How do you know you have teeth sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity treatment is characterized by a sudden wincing or an unpleasant response to hot or cold food and drinks, sweets, acidic food or even cold air.

How can it be treated?
There is no permanent tooth sensitivity treatment. Using a toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth gives relief. One should avoid too hot or cold food or drinks. even highly acidic foods should be avoided. Sometimes fillings can be done in areas which have been excessively abraded. cavities that cause sensitivity should be filled as soon as possible. But if the abrasions or attritions lead to nerve exposure, then root canal treatment may be done.

What is Early Periodontitis?

  • SIGNS-– bad breath, bleeding gums, increased deposition over the teeth, reddish swollen gums

  • How can you get it treated?

This is the stage in which a patient should visit a dentist as soon as possible for early periodontitis treatment to avoid the aggravation and worsening of the problem.Regular professional cleaning and regular examinations can help reduce the condition and restore the normal oral health of the patient. Lack of early intervention will result in worsening of this problem and lead to aggravation of this condition that is characterized by loose teeth and may even result in loss of teeth.

What is Late Periodontitis?
Early Periodontitis, if left untreated worsens and results in Late Periodontitis

  • SIGNS– increased gum bleeding, receding gums, loose teeth, increased swelling in the gums and foul breath

  • How do you treat late periodontitis?

Late periodontitis will not be cured by just cleaning. It requires extensive therapy and effective periodontitis treatment planning. Minor surgical procedures are done to remove the infection and bring back the bone and soft tissues to a healthy state.

What is Ultrasonic Cleaning?

Ultrasonic cleaning refers to removing the deposits from the teeth surface which if left to stand, harden and give rise to various gum diseases and inflammation. This technique uses ultrasonic instruments that effectively and efficiently clean the teeth and directly contribute to healthy teeth and gums.

  • When does one need it?

It is advised that a professional teeth cleaning should be done one every 6 months along with a dental health check-up by a dentist. Also, the individuals who have inflammation of the gums and heavy deposits on the teeth are specially advised immediate ultrasonic cleaning.

  • How long does it take?

It takes one appointment that last for about 15-30 minutes.

BRACES

ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT(BRACES)

  • Some of the common problems that need specialized orthodontics treatment include crowding (when there’s insufficient room for teeth to erupt from gum), widely spaced teeth (when there’s too much space between teeth), crooked teeth, underbite (when the lower jaw extends out and sit in front of the front teeth), overbite (when the front teeth extend out and sit in front of the lower front teeth), and more.

  • Malocclusion (imperfect positioning of the teeth when the jaws are closed) causes extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches, Temporomandibular Joint pain along with neck, shoulder & back pain. Orthodontic treatment deals primarily with the diagnosis, prevention and correction of malpositioned teeth and malformed jaws.

  • The benefits of orthodontic treatment include a healthier mouth and a more pleasing appearance due to proper positioning of teeth, which ultimately results in a beautiful smile, pleasing personality and higher self confidence.

What are Invisible Braces?
Invisible braces, also known as clear braces, are see through aligners that are custom made to specifically fit an individual. They are removable transparent braces. Each individual has a set of aligners which is changed almost every 2 weeks. These braces slowly cause the movement of the teeth and bring them into correct alignment. today, they’re a major boost in the field of cosmetic dentistry.

When does one need Invisalign aligners?
When an individual has irregularly positioned teeth and desires a correction of the same without the use of the prominently visible metallic braces. If they have special concerns regarding the looks and their smile, invisalign aligners are by and far the best option.

How long does it take?
The time period for this treatment varies from patient to patient. On an average, it takes 8-12 months depending on the severity the case.

SMILE DESIGN

AESTHETIC COSMETIC DENTISTRY(SMILE DESIGNING)

—Those celebrities with gorgeous smile – they aren’t necessarily gifted with that perfect smile. There’s a good chance that many of them have invested in some dental procedures. Cosmetic dentistry is more common than what many people realize. And it’s now a regular staple for the celebrities, as well as influencers. After all, you’re only as good looking as your smile.

—What is cosmetic dentistry?

—Cosmetic dentistry is an umbrella term, referring to a cluster of various dental works that are intended to improve the appearance of teeth, gums and bite. It covers every aesthetic end of your smile, right from the colour, shape and size of teeth to their alignment, position and overall appearance. There are different types of cosmetic dentistry. It includes teeth whitening, bridging, composite bonding, dental veneers, reshaping, implants, and more.

Do You Need to Invest in Cosmetic Dentistry?

Problems :

  • Missing teeth or spaces between teeth

  • Darkened, yellowed or grey, stained teeth

  • Crooked teeth or ‘mismatched’ teeth

  • ‘Gummy Smiles’, where a larger proportion of the gums get exposed while smiling

  • Too small, too large, too short or too thin teeth

  • Non tooth coloured silver fillings or old crowns with black lines due to metal

  • Services Provided :

  •  Smile Designing

  • Teeth Whitening — Zoom Bleaching

  •  Crown

  •  Crown & Bridge (Replacement of missing teeth)

  • Broken Teeth Restoration

  • Veneering

  •  Cosmetic Teeth Shaping

  •  Dental Jewellery

  •  Changing of Silver Amalgam Fillings to natural appearing, tooth-coloured restorations

  •  Replacing old Crowns that show black lines with all Ceramic Crowns

  •  Management of Diastema (Spacing of front teeth)

  •  Splinting (Immobilisation of mildly mobile tooth / teeth mainly in the anterior or front region of the tooth

What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin covers of tooth coloured ceramic that cover the front surface of the teeth to improve the looks and appearance of the front teeth. The biggest advantage of these dental veneers are that no or minimal grinding of the tooth structure. It can be composite or porcelain made.

When does one need them?
When an individual has mild gaps between his teeth, when is teeth are slightly smaller than the usual size, slightly ill-positioned teeth, cavities or discoloration in the front teeth are a few examples of cases that are ideal for dental veneers. Always treat those defects by the expert cosmetic dental surgeon as the expert will suggest you the best.

How long does it take?
The duration of this treatment depends on the number of teeth involved and the material that is to be used.It can range from 1-5 appointments. Standard xrays are needed before the commencement of the treatment.

What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a procedure by which the teeth colour is lightened and teeth stain or discoloration is removed. Teeth whitening helps improve the overall look of the teeth and makes them brighter.

When does one need this?
When an individual has discoloured teeth and stains that cannot be removed by either brushing or scaling, the individual can go for teeth whitening. The stains can be due to a prolonged habit of smoking, tobacco chewing, coloured soda drinks consumption or poor oral hygiene.

How long does it take?
Usually, the teeth whitening is done in a single sitting that takes about an hour.

What is crooked teeth alignment?

For individuals who have malpositioned or crowded teeth, or spaces between their teeth and those who do not have enough time for an orthodontic treatment or those who have crossed the age for the same can go for crooked teeth treatment that corrects such malalignments by using crowns and veneers.

When does one need this?
This is done for patients who have malpositioned /crowding/spacing between their teeth and who for some reason cannot undergo an orthodontic crooked teeth treatment.

How much time does it take?
It takes about 2-3 appointments and may vary depending on the severity of the problem.

What is gummy smile correction?

In certain individuals, a portion of their gums in the upper jaw is visible in the relaxed state or when they smile. This ‘gummy smile’ can be treated by removing a portion of the gums (gingivectomy) and giving crowns to the patients (if required) hence enhancing their smile and appearance.

When does one need it?
When the patient has a gummy smile and the surgical approach is either contraindicated or not acceptable to the patient, gummy smile correction treatment option is used.

How long does it take?
The first appointment is gingivectomy which is followed by a healing period of around 2 weeks (varies depending on the medical condition of the patient). This is followed by 2 more appointments for the crowns (if required) so a total of 1-3 appointments are required for this treatment procedure.

What is teeth reconstruction?

Teeth reconstruction refers to restoring broken/fractured teeth to its natural state. The reconstruction can be done using veneers, crowns and various other tooth coloured restorative materials

When does one need it?
If an individual has fractured his/her teeth due to trauma or the tooth structure is lost because of cavities, the patient is advised full mouth reconstruction to restore the natural tooth form and function.

How long does it take?
It generally takes 1-2 sittings depending on the treatment procedure followed. in cases of trauma or deep cavities, a root canal treatment may precede the teeth reconstruction which may take an additional 2-3 sittings.

TMJ DISORDER

What is TMJ Disorder

The Temporomandibular joint that connects our jaw to the skull. any problem with this joint is referred to as a TMJ Disorder. Here, the patient expiriences pain in the joint of the jaw and in the muscles that help in the jaw movement. This can be on one side or both the sides.

What are the causes of this?
There can be a wide number of causes responsible for this disorder. it can be due to irregularly positioned teeth, incorrect relation of the jaws, trauma to the jaws as a result of a fall or an accident, constant grinding of the teeth unknowingly (bruxism), stress, incorrect dentures/crowns/bridges that disrupt the occlusion, arthritis or even genetic.

How would one know he/she is suffering from a TMJ Disorder?
If a patient suffers from TMJ disorder, he/she will have a pain or a click at the jaw joint, earpain, a clicking noise heard in the ears, headache and pain in the temples or pain in the jaw muscles characterised by difficulty in chewing food.

How is this treated?
A device called a TMJ splint is prescribed to the patient which is to be worn by the patient and it helps reduce the pain and solve the patients problem. A few medicines are also prescribed to reduce the pain and inflammation.

How much time will it take?
It generally takes 2 appointments. One to take the impression and the other to deliver the splint.

NEUROMUSCULAR / PHYSIOLOGICAL DENTISTRY

is a scientifically based approach to dentistry which considers and evaluates the relationship between the teeth, the jaw joints, and the jaw muscles. This intuitive approach focuses on creating harmony within the system in order to achieve a bite which corresponds to an optimal physiological position for the lower jaw as it relates to the skull. Ultimately, the focus is to determine the position for the jaw where it is most relaxed thus improving and permanently correcting the problem.

NEURO MUSC

MOUTH GUARDS

Patients might benefit from a custom mouth guard such as a bite guard or night guard if they participate in high-impact sports activities or if they show signs of nighttime clenching or grinding (bruxism).

Unlike over-the-counter ‘boil and bite’ mouth guards, our custom guards are designed to:

  • protect tooth enamel

  • shield the soft tissues of the mouth against bruising, lacerations, and even nerve damage

  • protect dental work

  • Since our mouth guards are hand-processed, they also tend to be low-profile and offer a better fit for your comfort.

IMPLANTS

IMPLANTS

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants may be an option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Dental implants are metal posts or frames that are surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath your gums. Once in place, they allow your dentist to mount replacement teeth onto them. No matter your age, if you have a missing tooth or more, implant can restore your ability to chew and smile with confidence. Specialist Dental Surgeons dealing with this kind of treatments are known as Implantologists.

Why Dental Implants?

  • Whether you are replacing a tooth that is already missing or needs to be extracted, or replacing an old defective bridge, dental implants offer the best viable option for long term success.

  • Complete loss of teeth and use of simple dentures is a crippling disease impacting the livelihood and quality of life. Patients can not eat well and stop smiling. With loss of teeth, the jaw bone also deteriorates rapidly. As the jaw bone melts away and gum shrinks your muscles migrate, or pull back, from their natural position. Your lips lose the support, and wrinkles increase dramatically as your facial structures & bite collapse. The results are inability or difficulty to eat, loss of confidence, embarrassment, and accelerated feeling and appearance of aging.

  • You don’t have to live your life with such a crippling problem. Millions of people now days have benefited from dental implants supporting new teeth that they can use to chew better, smile more, and improve their overall quality of life

Treatments provided under Dental Implants :
(a) Keyhole Implant
(b) Single Tooth Implant
(c) Multiple Teeth Implant
(d) All-on-4 /6/ 8
(e) Full Mouth Reconstruction
(f) Overdentures
(g) Zygomatic Implant
(i) Bone Grafting & Sinus Augmentation

All-on-4:
All on 4 implants  is a technique that uses 4 implants in each of the jaws for replacement of the complete set of teeth. It uses 2 straight implants in the front region and two tilted ones in the back region to overcome bony deficiencies or anatomical structures.  The best part of the procedure is that the implants can be fitted with fixed teeth on the same day (unlike conventional implants where a waiting period of 3-6 months is indicated). A huge advantage of this procedure is that the titled implants help eliminating a surgical step of bone grafting.

  • When does one need all on 4 implants?

When all the teeth in either or both of the jaws are missing, if the bone height is insufficient to place a dental implant, this technique can be used, thereby eliminating the bone grafting surgical step. Complete denture wearers can go for all on four implants.

ALL ON Six Implants:

This is ideal for a fixed-hybrid prosthesis. This is an overdenture that has a metal sub-structure and is fixated to the implants. The prosthesis can be removed only by your dentist, if necessary. This eliminates denture extensions or flanges and feels more natural.

Eight Implants:

This is indicated for a fixed bridge. This prosthesis is made of porcelain or other ceramics and is supported by implants via screws or cement.

Zygomatic Implants:
These are implants that take support from the cheek bone. An excellent alternative to conventional implants for the upper jaw where the bone height is not sufficient. One of the major advantages of these implants are that they help eliminate the need for bone grafting or the sinus lift surgery, thereby reducing the treatment time and resulting in a more comfortable treatment.

When does one need this?
When the bone height is inadequate in the upper jaw, when conventional implants fail, when sinus lift and bone grafting surgical steps have failed or need to be eliminated. Medical condition of the patient should be sound. a thorough medical and dental evaluation needs to be done before commencement of the treatment. The use of dental diagnostic tools like standard x-rays or 3D X-rays is required.

Advantages of fixed prosthesis:

  • More closely resembles the feeling of natural teeth.

  • Because it is completely supported by implants, no denture flanges are necessary therefore making it more comfortable

  • Extremely stable so any type of food can be chewed easily.

  • Easily cleaned.

Disadvantages of fixed prosthesis:

  • More costly than a removable prosthesis.

SAME-DAY-TEETH(IMMEDIATE IMPLANTS AND TEETH)

Teeth-in-a-Day refers to the process where a patient can have necessary extractions done, dental implants placed and have an implant-supported prosthesis, all in the same day. It combines immediate implants and immediate restorations principles, so that a patient can come to the office in the morning, have all necessary surgery and prosthetic work completed, and leave home in the afternoon with fixed new teeth in place.

To achieve success, a number of factors must be considered:

  • Health of the extraction sites

  • Integrity of the surrounding bone

  • Location of implants

  • Type of prosthesis

  • Patient bite and forces of chewing

  • Immediate implant placement shortens the overall treatment time and consolidates your procedures into one. We offer Teeth-in-a-Day treatments but only to patients who meet strict criteria. Violation of such criteria significantly increases complications and failure rate.

CAUTION REGARDING TEETH-IN-A-DAY TREATMENTS:

Advertised widely by chain implant centers, the Teeth-in-a-Day concept has become largely a marketing fad. Teeth-in-A-Day, while promising and successful in selected group of patients, lacks sufficiency in its science, knowledge, literature, research, and expertise that is required to achieve predictable results. The approach may be successful, but only in very few candidates with no infection around their teeth, have great amount of bone, and all conditions are ideal. If conditions were this perfect, why would they need to have their teeth extracted to begin with? Many commercial “implant centers” do a hard sell to fit a patient into a treatment plan. Healthy natural teeth end up being extracted in order to place multiple implants and connect them with an immediate prosthesis on the same day! There are some evidence-based studies on this approach, but there are too many variables not yet thoroughly understood. Use of this approach in poor candidates results in high rates of failure and implant loss.

DOCUMMENTED SUCCESS IN IMPLANT DENTISTRY

  • In today’s dentistry dental implants clearly offer the best replacement option of single, multiple or all missing teeth. Consider the following documented studies:

  • Implants are generally 96-98% successful for periods of up to 40+ years. The variations are a result of several factors, prominent among them are the doctor – specialist or non-specialist, condition of the patient mouth, age of the patient, health of the patient,

  • Recent research indicates that replacing a missing tooth with an implant- supported crown provides benefits for the adjacent natural teeth also.

  • Success rates for implants do not decrease over time. Compare this to the success rate for bridges, which decreases steadily after 10 years. In fact at 15 years one to three bridges typically fail.

  • If more than one tooth is missing, the bridge “span” is longer – and will have an even lower success rate.

  • Regain Tooth’s Natural Feeling and Appearance :By replacing the entire tooth, including the root, dental implant replicate the natural teeth, with a strong, stable foundation that gives natural appearance and allows comfortable biting and chewing. In addition, nothing in the mouth looks or feels artificial.

  • Preserve Facial Harmony: Implants preserve the integrity of the oro-facial structures. By preventing the bone resorption that would normally occur with the loss of teeth, the facial structures remain intact. This is particularly important when all of the teeth are missing, as the lower one-third of the face collapses if implants are not placed to preserve the bone.

  • Smile: Your smile is improved when you’re missing/replacement teeth look more like the natural teeth. Even when only one tooth is missing, dental implant is the first line of treatment for long term aesthetics and chewing

  • Preserving Health of Adjacent Teeth: When replacing a missing teeth With dental implants, adjacent teeth are notcompromised . Tooth replacement with traditional tooth-supported bridges requires grinding down the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth/teeth, so that the bridge can be cemented onto them. Replacing missing teeth with implant supported crowns/bridges does not involve the adjacent natural teeth, so they are not compromised or damaged.

  • Better Quality of Life: Overall quality of life is enhanced with replacement of missing teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. With implant supported replacement teeth, the appearance of the smile is more natural, and the teeth function more like natural teeth. The result is increased comfort and confidence when smiling, speaking, and eating. If removable dentures are replaced with implant supported teeth or implant overdenture the overall enhancement in quality of life is even more significant, with an ability to eat all types of foods, elimination of digestive problems, and improved speech, comfort and appearance.

  • Better Oral Hygiene: It is much easier to care for an implant supported crown, which can be cleaned like a natural tooth. It is also more convenient to clean a full set of implant supported replacement teeth (Implant supported overdenture) than a traditional denture.

  • Improved Appearance: Since implants preserve bone, thereby preventing deterioration of the facial structures, as a result facial appearance is improved. Collapse of the lower one-third of the face caused by complete tooth loss can be visually corrected and the remaining bone preserved. The appearance of wrinkles around the mouth or premature aging is eliminated by implant supported fixed or removable teeth.

  • Restored Self-Esteem & Renewed Self-Confidence: Many of the people who now enjoy the benefits of implant supported fixed or removable teeth state that their self esteem and self confidence have been restored as a result of improved appearance, function, comfort, and health.

  • Improved Ability to Eat and Taste Foods: Wearing an upper traditional denture can prevent someone from really tasting food, as the roof of the mouth is covered. With implant supported replacement teeth, it is not necessary to cover the roof of the mouth, so it is possible to enjoy the taste of foods.

  • Dental Implants Safety: Dental implants are made of completely biologically compatible “bone- friendly” titanium material that naturally heals and integrates with the surrounding tissues. Because titanium is accepted so well by the human body, it is also used for orthopedic implants, such as hip and knee replacements. Dental implants are very safe and predictable, and complications can be avoided when performed by a trained, skillful, and experienced prosthodontist using specialized instruments and techniques.

FAQ

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

  • Age Limits for Implants: Dental implants should not be done until the patient has completed their growth age, typically age 16 to 17 in females and 18 to 21 in males. Some older patients fear their jaw bone is too weak. The fact is dental implants are equally successful and have an excellent prognosis in any adult patient. No one is too old for dental implants, and for many, improvement in chewing and aesthetics adds confidence and quality to their lives. The fundamental point is whether the patient will be able to tolerate the procedure and give required amount of time and visit at old age or not.

  • Can Dental Implants be rejected?  Rejection does not occur with dental implants. Nowadays overall success rate for dental implants is 99% with almost 50 years of clinical research to back them up provided you should be under the hand of its specialist. Because implants are made of biologically compatible “bone-friendly” titanium material, they naturally heal and integrate with the surrounding tissues.

  • What if I Don’t Have Enough Bone?  The jaw bone undergoes significant shrinkage following the third month after tooth loss and can continue up to 12 months. If the extraction site was not grafted at the time, there might be an inadequate amount of bone for implant placement in future. Bone grafting is indicated in few case otherwise the other alternative prosthetic treatment is indicated.

  • Dental Implants Success in Smokers:  Studies show an increased risk of complications if patients smoke (more than 20 cigarettes/day) during the initial phases of implants healing. However, once healed and integrated, there is good long term success. It is advised to stop or at least reduced (less than 10/day) smoking for 2-3 months following dental implant placement for optimal results.

  • Medical Conditions Requiring Special Precautions:

  • Patients with immune deficiency disorder

  • Post-radiation therapy to head and neck region

  • Post-chemotherapy

  • Uncontrolled diabetes: Patients with diabetes may successfully have dental implants as long as they are well controlled. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes can experience poor healing and implant failure, therefore, should seek medical care prior to implant placement.

Implant and Safety:

Dental Implants are quite safe and predictable and complications can be avoided when the procedure is performed by a trained, skillful, and experienced Prosthodontist using specialized instruments and techniques. Dental implants are made of biologically compatible “bone-friendly” titanium material that naturally heals and integrates with the surrounding tissues. Because titanium is accepted so well by the human body, it is also used for orthopedic implants, such as hip and knee replacements..

What are Overdentures?

Overdentures are the dentures that take support from the patients’ natural teeth or implants placed within the jaw and rests completely over them. They are better than the conventional dentures since they have better support and the rate of bone loss is decreased too. They are much better accepted by patients than the regular dentures dental surgeon in kolkata.

When does one need them?
When patients have a few or all of the teeth missing, overdentures can be fabricated taking support from the strong teeth present in the patient’s mouth or by placing implants in the patient’s jaws. wherever required.

How long does over denture take?
The number of appointments vary from patient to patient and can range anywhere in between 3-6. The time taken, again, can be a few weeks to a few months depending on the patients’ clinical findings and medical history.
